NDE has taken the lead in bringing together a variety of stakeholders to produce an Innovation strategy and programme for the sub region, the aim of which is to create:-
"A highly competitive, fast growing and innovative knowledge-based economy where there are numerous opportunities and a population equipped to take advantage of them"
Key objectives of the strategy are to:-
Promote the benefits of innovation and investment in research and development combined with business development processes in order to raise knowledge intensity in local SME's
Increase the level of research and development within business, Universities, public sector organisations leading directly to higher value added employment in the local economy.
Create a thriving innovation community of knowledge and high technology-based businesses benefiting from access to technology and knowledge transfer support.

Nottingham Science City
NDE provides the Secretariat to Nottingham Science City and has contributed to the development of the Nottingham Science City prospectus and action plan delivery.

New businesses learn from a three-year series of Masterclass events led by the region's successful business leaders and innovators. Open and honest, they share insights with the audience and provide ideas and inspiration.
Innovation Centre Managers Network Management responsibility for this forum of specialist business centres across the city, county and NE Derbyshire with access to over 900 businesses, many in the high technology and high growth sectors.
Local Area Agreement NDE has been contracted to identify, monitor and co-ordinate targeted support to Nottinghamshire's innovative businesses.
